Google's Android Enterprise Migration Methods

Overview

Three types of Android Enterprise enrollment method exist:

  • Work Profile Company-owned: Which creates a container that isolates apps and configurations, the container as well as an extended set of device parameters are managed by the company.
  • Work Profile Employee-owned: Which creates a container that isolates apps and configurations, only this container is managed by the company.
  • Fully Managed: The device and all its data are managed by the company.

Requirements

To leverage Android Enterprise capabilities, the UEM Target Tenant needs a configured Google account. Please refer to your official UEM Target Tenant guidelines to ensure proper compatibility.

Device behaviours

  • Work Profile Company-owned devices can receive both a Retire or an Erase command depending on the chosen option during the Batch creation.
  • Work Profile Employee-owned devices will be subject to a Retire command.
  • Fully Managed devices will be subject to an Erase command and will be therefore reset to factory settings (all end-user personal data will be lost).

The Relinquish Ownership unenrollment method available since Android 11 is supported by Intune, Workspace ONE, Ivanti Neurons for MDM and Ivanti Endpoint Manager via the Retire command.
