Companion App Guide

The Exodus Companion App is a native application available for both iOS (via the App Store) and Android (via the Play Store). As the mobile component of Exodus, it is used by the device holder to un-enroll their device from the Source Tenant and then re-enroll it into the Target Tenant.

Un-enroll and re-enroll your devices with the Companion App

Once you have created a migration from your dashboard, the concerned devices need to leverage the Companion App to trigger the un-enrollment from the Source Tenant and then the re-enrollment to the Target Tenant.

Hint

To learn how to get the Exodus Companion App, please read Get the Companion App on your devices.

Then there are two possible workflows:

Legacy workflow

  • Launch the Companion App on the device where you are invited to start a migration.
  • Click on Start Migration.
  • A pop-up window informs you that you cannot cancel the migration once started. Please pay attention to the message, and if you are ready to start the migration, tap on OK.
  • The application will check whether everything is correct in terms of data connectivity and battery level, and whether it can communicate with the Exodus Instance. If everything is fine, the un-enrollment will start automatically.

Caution

If the application reports an error, please read Troubleshooting the Companion App.

  • Now click on Finish Migration to start the re-enrollment phase. The re-enrollment phase includes different steps outside of the Companion App which are either EMM or Operating System dependant and varies if the device runs Android or iOS. Please make sure to follow the steps thoroughly.
  • Once done, the Companion App indicates the success of the migration process. You have completed your migration and your device is now successfully enrolled in your Target Tenant. The Companion App can be safely deleted from the device.

Full Device Wipe workflow

  • Launch the Companion App on the device where you are invited to start a migration.
  • Click on Erase Device.
  • A pop-up window informs you that you are about to erase all data of the device. Please pay attention to the message, and if you are ready to start the Full Device Wipe, tap on OK.
  • Once the device restarts, the re-enrollment phase includes different steps outside of the Companion App which are either EMM or Operating System dependant and varies if the device runs Android or iOS. Once done, your migration is complete and your device is now successfully enrolled in your Target Tenant.

Troubleshooting the Companion App

When starting a device migration with the Companion App, it will first try to check the device to make sure the migration can be safely executed. Then it will get through the different stages of the migration process. If something goes wrong in any of those steps, the app will let you know with an error message.

If you are facing this case, please read the following part:

Something went wrong during your device status check. Please make sure you have your cellular data activated or access to internet via WiFi before trying again.

If you see this message, it means that your device does not have an access to the Internet. Go to the device settings and make sure the device have a functional cellular connection or a functional WiFi connection and is not in airplane mode. If you’re struggling with this part, please report to the device’s documentation.

Something went wrong during your device status check. Please make sure your device has more than 30% battery level before trying again.

If you see this message, it means that the battery level of your device is too low. For safety reasons, you cannot start a migration if the battery level isn’t at least 30%. Plug your device and start again once the battery level is above 30%.

There is no ongoing migration for your device yet.

If you see this message, it means that no migration is set for this device. If you think there should have one, tap the little circled i in the top right corner and check that the Exodus server is correctly set (you may need the help of your IT department to know if the value is correct).
